New York Starbucks Cafe Dress Code Ruled Unlawful by Labor Board

Starbucks Corp. must alter its dress code at its New York City Roastery Reserve cafe after the National Labor Relations Board found it unlawfully restricted workers’ rights to organize.

Aboard panel unanimously held Wednesday that the dress code, which prohibits pins advocating for personal, political, or religious issues and limits pins related to labor organizations, is unlawfully broad.

The policy deemed illegal also states that workers are allowed to wear one pin supporting a labor organization but cannot wear shirts with graphics on them, including union insignia.
