New Yorkers working as actors and musicians will have new legal protections against the use of AI to imitate their appearances and voices starting in January, under legislation Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) signed into law.
The measure (S7676B) largely mirrors laws enacted this year in California, Illinois, and Tennessee that aim to prevent unauthorized digital replicas of performers’ likenesses and voices.
