New York Lifts State Hiring Freeze Through End of Fiscal Year

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul on Thursday lifted a hiring freeze for state workers through March in an effort to “keep New York moving forward.”

State agencies can once again begin hiring without first having to obtain a waiver from the state Division of the Budget, but must prioritize hiring for their core missions, according to the governor’s office.

The suspension of the freeze runs through the end of the state’s current fiscal year, which concludes March 31. It comes as the state is projecting an additional $2.1 billion in revenue as the ongoing economic recovery beats expectations, according to ...
