The city of New Orleans is suing the owners of a Hard Rock Hotel construction project that collapsed in October, killing three workers, the mayor said.
Owner Mohan Kailas, his partners and their contractors “bear the moral and legal obligation to accept responsibility for this horrific tragedy,” a statement emailed by Mayor LaToya Cantrell’s office said Tuesday. The Oct. 12 collapse of the hotel during construction damaged streets and infrastructure, and shut down a neighboring theater and other businesses for months. The city’s response has cost taxpayers at least $12.3 million, the statement said.
