New Mexico detention officers are entitled to pay for security screenings, briefings, and some other activities they undertake before and after their shifts because they’re integral to their principal work duties, the Tenth Circuit said Tuesday.
The 122 detention officers at Otero County Prison sued their employer Management & Training Corp. under the Fair Labor Standards Act and the New Mexico Minimum Wage Act, claiming they weren’t compensated for these activities.
