New Jersey Supermarkets Pay $1.8M for Denying Workers Overtime

Three supermarkets have paid over $1.8 million in back wages and liquidated damages after investigators found they failed to pay required overtime rates to 226 employees at stores in Hackensack, Oakland, and Waldwick, N.J., according to the US Labor Department Thursday.

D&J Enterprise LLC, J&Y Giant LLC, and Waldwick Farmers Market LLC, which operate as Giant Farmers Market, allegedly violated the Fair Labor Standards Act by paying employees a day rate or salary without overtime pay for hours worked over 40 in a week.
