New Jersey Mandates Leave for Victims Of Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault

PHILADELPHIA—Public and private employers in New Jersey with 25 or more employees will be required to provide up to 20 days of unpaid leave to an employee who is the victim of domestic violence or sexual assault, under legislation (S. 2177) that will take effect Oct. 1.

The unpaid leave mandated under the New Jersey Security and Financial Empowerment (NJ SAFE) Act also applies to an employee whose child, spouse, parent, domestic partner, or civil union partner is a victim of domestic violence or a sexually violent offense.
