New Jersey Governor Proposes Narrowing Temporary Worker Pay Bill

Legislation requiring New Jersey businesses to pay temporary workers the same amount as their permanent employees would apply only to specific occupations, under changes Gov. Phil Murphy is requesting of the legislature.

Murphy sent the bill (A1474) back to state lawmakers Thursday—his deadline for acting on it—with a conditional veto. He said he supported the bill’s overall purpose of protecting temporary workers from exploitation on the job, but asked legislators to approve his revisions before sending it back for his signature.
