New Jersey FedEx Drivers Win Class Status in Classification Suit

New Jersey drivers who allege that FedEx Ground Systems Inc. made unlawful deductions from their wages by classifying them as independent contractors rather than employees may proceed as a class, a federal court in the state ruled.

Michael Carrow and other named plaintiffs succeeded on their second try for class certification by clarifying their legal theory, which now centers on common issues, the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey said Dec. 26. The class includes 215 drivers.
