New Amazon Minimum Wage Is Below Median Pay in Most Areas (1)

Amazon.com Inc. announced on Oct. 2 it’s raising the minimum wage for all employees in the U.S. to $15 an hour. This map shows how an entry-level worker’s pay will compare with the median pay in communities where the company has warehouses.

Employees in 57 percent of the locations will make less than the local median. Bloomberg calculations used a 40-hour week for the Amazon workers to arrive at annual pay of $31,200. Local earnings data came from the U.S. Census Bureau, and Amazon warehouse locations were provided by Avalara, a tax-software provider.
