The NCAA board of governors voted unanimously to permit student athletes to benefit from the use of their name, image and likeness, “in a manner consistent with the collegiate model,” the NCAA says in a statement.
The action directs each of the NCAA’s three divisions to immediately consider updates to their relevant bylaws and policies.
Changes should follow a series of principles, including: Making clear “the distinction between collegiate and professional opportunities” “Compensation for athletics performance or participation is impermissible.”
