N.Y. Judge Denies Bid by Immigrants for Relief During DACA Fight

A New York judge refused a request by immigrants brought to the US as children to order the US to resume accepting applications to an Obama-era program that prevents their deportation while several other states mount legal challenges to dismantle the government protections.

Immigrants claimed they were in “limbo” after the Biden administration improperly suspended processing of about 80,000 first-time applicants to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA. Their lawyers said the government was “misapprehending” a ruling by a Texas federal judge that blocked DACA protections for new applicants, known as Dreamers.
