MSHA Launches Online Tool to Calculate Rate of S&S Violations for Individual Mines

The Labor Department’s Mine Safety and Health Administration has launched a new online tool that can figure out a mine’s rate of serious safety and health violations, MSHA announced Aug. 14.

The agency’s two-year-old Pattern of Violations Monitoring Tool measures a mine’s performance against MSHA’s screening criteria for violations. The S&S Rate Calculator is an enhancement of that tool because it allows users to determine a mine’s rate of significant and substantial, or S&S, violations for any specific date range.
