More Green Cards, Work Permits Included in Senate Border Deal

The Senate’s recent border deal would offer the most significant green card expansion in decades and a solution for the tenuous legal status of some adult children of immigrant workers.

The bipartisan deal released Sunday, which pairs new restrictions on border crossings with billions in foreign aid, has the support of immigration advocates for its provisions addressing legal immigration and lowered barriers to work permits for asylum seekers.

But any legislation has a tough road to passage in its current form, with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) already urging its rejection.
