Minimum Wage Hike Fallout to Be Examined by House Committee

A House Education and the Workforce subcommittee next week is scheduled to get into the debate about raising the federal minimum wage.

This comes a month before Republicans will hand over majority control to Democrats, who are expected to push legislation intended to increase the current hourly minimum of $7.25.

The Republican-controlled subcommittee Dec. 5 will hold a hearing titled “Mandating a $15 Minimum Wage: Consequences for Workers and Small Businesses.” Many Republican lawmakers have rebuffed Democratic efforts to increase the federal minimum wage in recent years, saying it could stifle hiring and force businesses to close.
