A Michigan State University professor reached a settlement to end his lawsuit accusing school trustees of disparaging him as a racist in a character assassination campaign in response to his constitutionally protected free speech.
Translational neuroscience Professor Jack Lipton and Michigan State Trustees Rema Vassar and Dennis Denno filed a stipulated order of dismissal with prejudice Friday in the US District Court for the Western District of Michigan. The parties reached an undisclosed settlement during mediation in November 2025, according to a mediator’s report. Neither party immediately responded to a request for comment.
