Michigan LGBTQ Group Sues State Over Ballot-Signature Rules

The first Michigan ballot campaign that tried to collect online signatures sued the state on Tuesday in a bid to lower the number of required signatures.

Fair and Equal Michigan wants gender identity and sexual orientation protections to be covered by state law, and launched a bid six months ago to get a measure on the Nov. 3 ballot. Now the group says it won’t be able to get all the signatures it needs because of coronavirus pandemic social-distancing rules.

The group asked Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) to drop the signature threshold to 127,518, or 37.5% ...
