Mercy Health St. Mary’s, a hospital and member of the Trinity Health System, faces a religious discrimination lawsuit after it allegedly failed to provide a religious accommodation to an applicant and then refused to hire him due to his religious beliefs, according to the EEOC Monday.
The Grand Rapids, Mich. hospital maintains a policy that requires employees to get an annual flu shot, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said. The applicant applied for a flu shot exemption based on his religious beliefs, but his request was denied and job offer rescinded without explanation to how the exemption was deficient.
