The head of the Labor Department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration told a gathering of safety professionals June 11 that he sees the agency’s planned injury and illness prevention program (I2P2) rulemaking as a tool that can jolt employers out of a compliance-only mindset and toward a more dynamic safety culture.
“If all you do is comply with safety standards … you certainly won’t prevent the injuries, illnesses, and fatalities that need to be prevented,” David Michaels told participants at the Safety Culture/Climate Workshop.
