Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc. must continue to litigate a hiring discrimination lawsuit after a federal appeals court ruled that US citizens can bring claims under Section 1981 of the 1866 Civil Rights Act.

A divided three-judge panel of the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit reversed a federal district judge’s 2022 ruling that US citizen Purushothaman Rajaram lacked standing to sue under the civil rights law.
