Mercedes Workers in Alabama Signal Support for Auto Union (1)

More than half the workforce at the largest Mercedes-Benz Group AG plant in the US have submitted cards in support of joining the United Auto Workers, the union said Tuesday.

The announcement from the plant in Vance, Ala., comes as part of a sweeping effort by UAW to organize 13 non-union auto plants, adding an estimated 150,000 members to its ranks. The union recently announced majority support at a Volkswagen AG plant in Chattanooga, Tenn.
