Mercedes Workers in Alabama Schedule Union Vote in UAW Push (1)

Workers at a Mercedes-Benz plant in Vance, Alabama, will hold a union election next month, setting up a clash between the company and the United Auto Workers as the union mounts a far-reaching campaign to organize foreign-owned plants.

The company and the UAW agreed to hold an election from May 13-17, the National Labor Relations Board said Thursday. The facility employs more than 6,000 workers who make top-tier models and are pioneering the company’s electric vehicle efforts.
