Marsh & McLennan Urges Court to Nix Case on Excess Health Fees

Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC is pushing back against a frozen fruit and vegetable manufacturer after the company accused the consultant firm of holding its health plan assets hostage and illegally retaining millions of dollars in fees.

The case in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Washington underscores the opaque nature of service fees in health plans, which are under increasing scrutiny as workers and employers challenge high health costs in court. Pioneering plaintiffs firm Schlichter Bogard filed the most recent wave of class actions over voluntary benefits in December, targeting several big consultant firms.
