Marriott employees at five hotels in Hawaii initiated a strike on Oct. 8, joining workers in five other cities currently on strike against the hotel chain, UNITE HERE spokeswoman Rachel Gumpert told Bloomberg Law.
About 2,700 workers are on strike in the Aloha State, Gumpert said. Four of the five hotels are on Oahu—including The Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki—and one hotel is on Maui.
The strike in Hawaii comes a day after workers at one Marriott hotel in Detroit initiated a strike. Other cities where Marriott workers are striking include Boston, San Jose, Calif., San Francisco, and Oakland.
