Marriott Loses Bid to Dismiss Housekeeper’s Disability Bias Suit

WHG Payroll Inc., which operates a Marriott hotel in Pennsylvania, failed to persuade a federal judge that a housekeeper’s kidney condition didn’t meet the definition of a disability under the Americans with Disability Act.

Josephine Cecilio Reyes filed a lawsuit against the company in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, alleging that she was fired in retaliation for requesting reasonable accommodations for her disability. According to court documents, Reyes returned to work after a Covid-19 hospitalization and requested light duty and a leave of absence from work while she underwent surgery for a kidney infection.
