Manufacturing Company Faces EEOC Lawsuit Over Age Discrimination

Louisiana-based manufacturing and distribution company J&M Industries Inc. faces an age discrimination lawsuit from the EEOC after allegedly firing an employee because she turned 65 years old, the agency said Friday.

A company manager allegedly asked a purchasing agent repeatedly about retirement as she approached her 65th birthday. When she said she had no plans to retire, the company told her that her position was being eliminated due to economic uncertainty, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said.

J&M Industries allegedly hired a man in his 30s for the same role less than a month later, according to the EEOC. ...
