Manchin Says He Will Support Looman for Top Wage Regulator

Sept. 20, 2022, 1:40 PM UTC

Senate Democrat Joe Manchin said he will support the Biden administration’s latest pick for the role of the US Department of Labor’s top wage regulator after he was instrumental in tanking the previous nominee, David Weil.

“I will vote for her,” the West Virginia senator told the International Franchise Association conference Tuesday, referring to Jessica Looman, President Joe Biden’s second nominee for the role to head the Wage and Hour Division after Weil’s nomination failed on the Senate floor in March. Manchin—as well as Senate Democrats from Arizona Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly—voted against Weil.
