Machinists Challenge NLRB Ruling on Size of Nissan Union Election

The International Association of Machinists won’t seek to organize a “wall-to-wall union” at a Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. plant in Tennessee, and will instead appeal a federal labor board official’s decision to add more than 4,000 workers to the proposed bargaining unit.

An acting National Labor Relations Board regional director on Friday ordered an election for 4,300 workers at a Nissan automotive plant near Nashville, even though the Machinists had sought to organize just 87 tool and die employees at the site.
