Lyft Drivers Fail to Get Court-Ordered Coronavirus Sick Pay

A federal judge rejected Lyft Inc. drivers’ request to be reclassified as employees with benefits including sick pay.

  • Drivers cited the coronavirus epidemic as a reason they should be reclassified
  • U.S. District Judge Vince Chhabria refused to issue an emergency injunction, and agreed with Lyft that the claims should be sent to private arbitration
  • A separate claim seeking a “public injunction” under California law was referred to a lower state court
