Long Island Hospital Wins Pregnancy Bias Suit On Flu Shot Policy

A NYU Winthrop Hospital radiology technician who was terminated for not complying with the hospital’s flu vaccination policy failed to show that the denial of her request for an exemption constituted pregnancy discrimination, a federal court in New York said Tuesday.

NYU Winthrop in 2017 tightened its mandatory flu vaccination policy to protect its patients, many of whom are immunocompromised. It rescinded the option for hospital employees to instead wear face masks, saying it wasn’t settled how effective they were at preventing flu transmission.
