Local Right-to-Work Rules Banned in New Mexico

New Mexico cities and counties that banned mandatory union membership as a condition of employment can’t enforce their rules under a new state law.

Legislation signed by Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham March 27 is a blow to a handful of local governments that implemented right-to-work rules in a state that doesn’t have any. The new law says only the state can decide whether employers or labor organizations can require union membership and the union dues that go along with it.
