Washington state would limit businesses’ ability to screen out cannabis users in the hiring process, under legislation heading to Gov. Jay Inslee (D) for his signature.
The bill (SB 5123) would bar employees from refusing to hire job candidates based on commonly used drug tests that detect cannabis metabolites. Those substances can be detected for days or weeks after a person uses cannabis but don’t indicate whether the person is impaired at the time of testing.
