The US Defense Department agreed to settle a class lawsuit by LGBTQ+ military veterans alleging their discharges under the agency’s one-time “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy have had lingering discriminatory effects.
Plaintiffs representing the proposed class asked the US District Court for the Northern District of California on Monday to preliminarily approve the agreement, which would establish new procedures for seeking to have records updated or upgraded to remove indicia of their sexual orientation and otherwise correct discharge paperwork.
