Lawyers in Landmark Sex Bias Case to Get $9 Million More in Fees

The U.S. government agreed to pay $9 million more in attorneys’ fees to lawyers who obtained a landmark $508 million settlement in 2000 for more than 1,000 women allegedly passed over for hire or promotions with the now defunct U.S. Information Agency, federal court records show.

Class counsel for the women and the U.S. attorney’s office filed a joint stipulation Thursday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia informing the court of their agreement. Under it, the government will pay “a total of $9,033,600" to the Steptoe & Johnson LLP trust account.
