A US State Department visa freeze for 39 countries covered by a Trump administration travel ban is unlawful, a new lawsuit argues.
Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act allows the president to temporarily halt or restrict entry of any class of immigrants or temporary visitors when he deems it in the interest of the US. But that authority doesn’t empower the State Department to stop processing visas it’s required by statute to adjudicate, according to the suit filed in the US District Court for the District of Columbia.
