Nearly 275,000 registrations were submitted for the fiscal year 2021 lottery for high-skilled guestworkers, the highest number yet for the popular employment visa program.
The latest numbers show a 38% increase in potential applicants for H-1B visas from last year’s lottery. In 2019 201,011 petitions were submitted for FY2020, about a 6% increase from the 190,098 submitted the year before.
“The new H-1B electronic registration system has been an overall success,” said Joseph Edlow, deputy director for policy at U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. “This new registration system is one of many ways USCIS is improving the H-1B program.”
