Organized labor in Illinois is flexing its muscle following the election of a Democratic governor, as the Legislature passed a union-backed prevailing wage bill that was previously vetoed by outgoing Republican Gov.
The House made quick work of Senate Bill 203, which requires the local prevailing wage be set at the rate that prevails for similar work performed under collective bargaining agreements in a locality. The measure passed the House Nov. 28 by a vote of 78-28. The Senate took action later in the day, voting 44-6 to pass it.
