Labor Secretary Vows No Cuts for Workplace Safety Enforcement

President Donald Trump’s proposed 35% cut to the US Department of Labor’s budget wouldn’t impact the agency’s enforcement arms like the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer told lawmakers.

“The safety of the American worker is first and foremost,” Chavez-DeRemer said during a House appropriations hearing Thursday. “It is going to be my goal that no cuts are going to be directed” for safety enforcement work at agencies like OSHA and the Mine Safety and Health Administration, she said.
