Labor Groups Urge Court to Uphold $15 Contractor Minimum Wage

Five labor organizations urged a Denver-based federal appeals court to reject a request to block President Joe Biden’s $15 minimum wage for federal contractors, arguing that the president was within his authority to raise the pay for workers on federal contracts.

The groups, including the National Employment Law Project, Communications Workers of America, and the Economic Policy Institute, told the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit in a filing Tuesday that the president has “wide discretion” under the federal Procurement Act to “prescribe policies and directives” that they consider “necessary to carry out” the law.
