The US Department of Labor’s inspector general is probing the data collection practices at the Bureau of Labor Statistics following large revisions and criticism from President Donald Trump.
The independent agency watchdog announced Wednesday it was launching a review of the challenges the BLS encounters in obtaining data used to calculate inflation and employment figures.
The move comes after Trump fired the former BLS commissioner, suggesting she had rigged data released by the agency after multiple negative revisions to the data.
