Sept. 27, 2022, 9:50 PM UTC

US Medical Staffing Inc., a Philadelphia health-care staffing company, will pay $9.3 million in back wages and liquidated damages after willfully denying overtime pay to 1,756 misclassified workers, according to the Department of Labor.

The company allegedly falsely claimed employees to be independent contractors and classified itself as a registry for clients to employ workers, the agency said on Tuesday.

US Medical Staffing will pay an additional $700,000 in penalties for the willful nature of the violations, said the DOL.
