Labor Department Personnel Chief Resigns Amid DOGE Layoff Push

March 12, 2025, 12:57 AM UTC

Troy Finnegan, the US Labor Department’s assistant secretary for administration and management, resigned Wednesday, the agency confirmed.

Finnegan’s departure comes as the agency faces a March 13 deadline to submit its plan for “large-scale” layoffs under President Trump’s executive order on government efficiency.

“Troy Finnegan played an important role in ensuring the Department of Labor had a smooth transition prior to the secretary’s confirmation, and we thank him for his service to this administration,” a department spokesperson said in a statement.

The department announced Finnegan’s appointment to the position Feb. 13.
