Child Labor Enforcement Needs More Agency Funding, Su Says

A “modest” budget increase would help the US Labor Department boost its child labor law enforcement and workforce development programs, acting Labor Secretary Julie Su told skeptical House Republican appropriators.

Defending President Joe Biden’s fiscal year 2025 budget request at a Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee hearing Wednesday, Su said the funding increase would help crack down on the dramatic rise of child labor violations despite caps on how much additional money the DOL can request.
