Labor Department Makes Overtime Proposal Official

The Labor Department yesterday rolled out its new proposal to update overtime pay requirements. As expected, the DOL wants to raise the salary threshold under which workers are automatically eligible for time-and-a-half overtime pay to about $35,000 a year.

• Lawsuits Coming: The department can expect at least one legal challenge from worker advocacy groups. They say the DOL hasn’t adequately justified backing away from an Obama-era proposal to hike the salary threshold to roughly $47,000.
