Labor Agency Regulators Roll Out Enhanced Self-Auditing Programs

The US Labor Department is expanding self-audit programs it says will enhance worker protections and reduce the likelihood of formal investigations and litigation targeting employers, unions, and pension plans.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is expanding its Voluntary Protection Program to allow businesses to undergo regular self-evaluations and avoid routine inspections. The Wage and Hour Division, meanwhile, is restarting a program that allows employers to self-identify and resolve minimum wage, overtime, and leave violations, according to a Thursday announcement.
