Labcorp Defeats Former Worker’s Whistleblower Retaliation Suit

Laboratory Corp. of America won its bid to dismiss claims it retaliated against a former employee who reported other workers for allegedly engaging in misconduct.

Marisol Ruiz’s claims that she faced retaliation under the Illinois Whistleblower Act and common law fail, because she doesn’t meet the criteria to be classified as a whistleblower and didn’t claim the alleged misconduct she reported violated any laws, the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois said in a Tuesday dismissal order.
