Kentucky Nixes Safety Rules ‘Stricter’ Than OSHA Regulations

Kentucky mining operators, logistics titans and manufacturing behemoths could have their workplace safety practices overhauled under a new law that prohibits state rules that are more strict than federal regulations.

The Republican-controlled Kentucky state House and Senate on Monday overrode Gov. Andy Beshear‘s veto of a bill (H.B. 475) that prevents the state’s labor cabinet from adopting “any occupational safety and health administrative regulation that is more stringent than the corresponding federal provision enforced by the United States Department of Labor under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970.”
