A Senate labor panel once again advanced Julie Su’s nomination to serve as labor secretary despite a year-long limbo that indicates she likely still doesn’t have enough votes to be confirmed.
The Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted 11-10 Tuesday to move Su’s nomination to the Senate floor. The vote was held in a heated “closed door” meeting room off the chamber and wasn’t publicly broadcast, infuriating the committee’s top Republican.
