Judge Who Won’t Marry Same-Sex Couples Out at SCOTUS

A state judge censured after telling a reporter that her religious beliefs prevented her from marrying same-sex couples won’t get her day at the Supreme Court after it denied review Jan. 8.

Judge Ruth Neely, a municipal and part-time magistrate judge in Pinedale, Wyo., claimed that the state violated her free exercise of religion and free speech rights when it gave her an ultimatum: Either marry same-sex couples or marry no one.
