Judge Tosses Haier Appliances Worker’s Sex Discrimination Claims

Haier US Appliance Solutions escaped claims that it unlawfully discriminated against a female employee after a federal judge ruled that she failed to prove the company unlawfully disciplined her because of her sex.

Judge Rebecca Grady Jennings of the US District Court for the Western District of Kentucky granted Haier’s motion for summary judgment Wednesday, finding that the company adequately showed it had a nondiscriminatory reason for disciplining the employee.

Pamela Taylor, a processor and chief union steward at a Louisville, Ky., facility, sued Haier after the company suspended her in 2023 following her altercation with a male coworker.
